It’s because you either: (1) have not gotten clear on your unique definition of success and are unconsciously trying to achieve someone else’s… or… (2) you have not held the standard of your desires and definition of success long enough or with enough conviction to bring it to life.
Success to me is… getting paid to do work that feels like an expression of who I am and what I desire to contribute to humanity. To choose a career path where even in the lowest lows I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life because my work is so anchored in purpose and embodied in Creative Choice.
Success to me is… choosing how I spend my time, energy, and money without a list of terms and conditions. To choose and create everything in alignment with my deepest desires and highest potential… versus contorting my creations and choices around past wounding and perceived limitations.
Success to me is… never missing a milestone in my children’s lives “because l have to work”. Holding the duality of, there will be moments I miss for work. But it will be by choice. And the conversation with my children will be both empowered and empowering as a model to them of what it looks like to value your work, to be devoted to purpose, and to juggle life and family and business and everything with intention and grace.
Success to me is… raising healthy, happy, grounded, respected and respectful children who believe that they can create whatever they are willing to show up for and grow into in life, without compromising their values or desires, because they watched their parents model that.
Success to me is… enjoying the MF ride. Highs and lows alike.
Getting off the hamster wheel of always reaching for the next milestone to try to feel successful is simple.
The equation is this:
(1) examine your measuring stick for success—is it actually yours? Or have you unconsciously bought into what you were sold (by your parents/peers/society/etc.) makes you successful?
Then, (2) when you are clear on what you define as success… hold yourself to that standard ruthlessly and relentlessly, make choices every single day in alignment with your definition—especially when it feels the hardest—and watch as everything around you begins to shift.
